QBIC is bascially a "four in a row" board game, except that you can place your tokens on 16 sticks. This way you can connect four tokens in 3D space and no longer on a 2D plane.

Celebrating 100 downloads

Hey,

we've crossed the 100 downloads mark! I think it's time to celebrate this. Maby I find some time to port the game back to Linux in the summer and add some enhancements to it.

Thanks to everybody who has downloaded the game until now. Those of you who didn't download it yet: Go get it!

QBIC 1.0.0 SVN212 released!

Hello!

The server menu buttons were enabled at the wrong place in the last release. We recommend updating to this release if you want to play online!

You can download the installer here: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/qbic/qbic-setup-SVN212.exe

QBIC 1.0.0 SVN211 released!

Hello!

This is our second release. We fixed several GUI stuff, like the server menu. The installer works fine now. There's also a German User's Guide included now!

You can download the installer here: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/qbic/qbic-setup-SVN211.exe?use_mirror=o...

Except the ugly ray casting bug when selecting the sticks on the board, everything works almost fine!

QBIC 1.0.0 SVN210 released!

Hello!

We are proud to announce our first release of QBIC: QBIC 1.0.0 SVN 210.

You can download the installer here: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/qbic/qbic-setup-svn210.exe?use_mirror=o...

Although we think that this version is somewhat stable, it is considered to be an alpha version because of some missing features and the lack of a good visual design.

We hope, you enjoy playing the game and tell us what you think! Comments are really appreciated!!!

After more than a whole day of work, the hour is late and I'm going to bed now!

Goodnight Goodnight!
Konrad (Kowi)

Eclipse instead of VC

Yes, yes, I know we have switched from OS to OS and IDE to IDE but lately we came back to where we started.

The Eclipse platform is simply the best for development, version control and installation tool creation!

QBIC compiles with MinGW now, but you'll need the modified version available from here: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/ogre/MinGW_Toolbox_Setup_wr1.exe?down...

You can read about the MinGW version here: http://www.ogre3d.org/wiki/index.php/Codeblocks_and_MinGW#MinGW_C.2B.2B_...

Switched main development platform

Hello,

what started more as joke has now become a serious step: We switched our main development platform from Linux to Microsoft Windows with Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Express Edition as our IDE.

That does not mean we won't be releasing QBIC under Linux! I love Linux and it's my favorite OS. But due to the nearness of our first deadline for this project, we think that the deployment on a Windows machine is far more easy than on a Linux machine with all the different distributions.

Build script uses FreeImage393

I have updated the build script (direct link) to the newest FreeImage (393 instead of 392).

Goodbye, Qt!

We are currently moving away from Qt because we didn't benefit from it. There are several reasons for this step:

  • The previously expected advantage is not that obvious anymore, in fact it disappeared.
  • Embedding an Ogre::RenderWindow into a QWidget is not needed, since we wouldn't profit from Qt's input system.
  • The in-game GUI uses OIS
  • We are now free to license our sourcecode under LGPL. (Being forced to release GPL licensed code only isn't nice.)

SVN mailing list.

Lately, we have set up a mailing list (qbic-svn at lists dot sourceforge dot net) that will be informed about every commit made to the SVN repository. You can subscribe on the mailinglist's front page.

QBIC registered at ohloh.net

We have just registered our project at http://www.ohloh.net. ohloh analysises our sourcecode on a regular basis and provides some metrics. You can see our ohloh badge at the first position in the right menu bar.

Refering to ohloh, the project's source code so far is Extremely well-commented (http://www.ohloh.net/projects/4220)! Of course 42% of commented source code lines don't say anything about the code itself. But at least we're trying to be disciplined :)

SVN repository initially imported

An initial import into our SVN repository has just been made.

If you want to checkout this bleeding edge sourcecode, feel free to grab a copy.

Instructions on how to download SVN sourcecode can be found on the Downloads page.

2007-01-24 Status

This is a screenshot of the current development process. All of this has been made for demonstration purposes, so textures, models and the setting (skybox), which is the famous nvidia lobby will be changed. Also missing are the overlays and other GUI stuff.

QBIC website is online!

Hi everybody,

today we're pleased to announce the birth of our new project website. It is driven by drupal and is hosted on sourceforge.net.

We will use this website to talk about out the development of QBIC. Nevertheless, it is not primarily intended for developers. If you play QBIC you can check out this site to find out about new releases or new strategies.

Anyway, we hope you'll enjoy playing QBIC, when it'll be released!

Thank you!
